Kapil Dev receives wishes from fans and Cricket fraternity on his 63rd Birthday – Kapil Dev, the former India captain and one of the finest all-rounders the game has ever seen, turns 63 years old today, January 6th, 2022. Kapil Dev had a colourful career that began in 1978. He was maybe the best all-rounder India ever produced and one of the first true pacers India showed to the globe.

He was born in Chandigarh on January 6, 1959, and made his FC debut for Haryana in 1975, taking six wickets against Punjab. In his first season of First-Class cricket, he took 121 wickets in 30 matches.

He made his India debut against Pakistan in Faisalabad in 1978, plucking Sadiq Mohammad for his maiden Test wicket and regularly pinging Pakistani batters on the helmets. He continued to contribute with the bat as well, hitting his first Test century against the West Indies in Delhi in 1979.

His greatest claim to fame came when he was selected captain of the Indian squad for the 1983 World Cup, where he led an underdog side to victory, despite the fact that no one had given India a chance in the previous two editions of the tournament.

He proceeded to accomplish miracles for India with both the bat and the ball, including a legendary fifer against Australia in a Test match in which he bowled with a thigh muscle strain despite receiving injections to keep him going. He led India to the semi-finals of the 1987 World Cup in their own country, but he never again captained the national squad in any competition.

Kapil Dev, the cricket star, received birthday wishes from fans and the cricket fraternity as he celebrates his 63rd birthday.
