U19 CWC 2022: Indian cricket fraternity applauds India U-19 team on lifting record fifth World Cup title

U19 CWC 2022: India created history by winning their fifth Under-19 World Cup triumph with a four-wicket victory over England in the final in Antigua. In a low-scoring game, India showed discipline in chasing a tricky target to win the title.

At the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, England won the toss and chose to bat first. However, the Tom Prest-led team was quickly rocked by Ravi Kumar with the new ball, and then Raj Bawa’s triple-strike reduced them to 61/6.

Moreover, England were bowled out for 189 in 44.5 overs after James Rew scored 95 and shared 93 runs for the ninth wicket with James Sales, who scored 34*. Bawa (5/31) became only the second bowler in U-19 World Cup finals history to take five wickets. Therefore, Ravi Kumar finished with 4/34, extending his stellar Super League season.

India lost opener Angkrish Raghuvanshi for a duck, but Harnoor Singh (21), vice-captain Shaik Rasheed (50), and captain Yash Dhull (17) all got starts before falling just when the team appeared to be in control.

Nishant Sindhu, who had led India in a few of games earlier in the competition, produced an undefeated 50 in an innings that will go down in Indian history as the one that sealed the deal. Bawa continued his excellent day with a stroke-filled 35 to help India get near to their objective, before Dinesh Rana finished the game with two consecutive sixes.

Therefore, the Indian cricket fraternity, including BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, were quick to react. And celebrate the new World Champions after India’s historic win.
