U-19 World Cup: Yash Dhull has good head on his shoulders, says India coach Kanitkar

India coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar praised Yash Dhull‘s leadership after the team won the 2022 U-19 World Cup, saying the youngster has a good head on his shoulders.

India won the U19 World Cup for the fifth time on Saturday, defeating England in the final at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

“It’s too exciting for my good, but happy with the result. I think we learned a lot from this. We were looking to bat as well. There was a little bit of moisture,” said Kanitkar after the final.

“Dhull led them very well. He has a very good head on his shoulders. I think it’s a fabulous competition, getting this stage to perform at this young age, for all teams. It’s a great opportunity to showcase talent and for the academies around the world,” he added.

Midway through the tournament, a few members of the squad, including Shaik Rasheed and Yash Dhull, tested positive for COVID-19, but whoever stepped in performed an excellent job, and India did not lose a single game in the 2022 U19 World Cup.

In the top encounter, the Yash Dhull-led squad defeated the Three Lions by four wickets. India had won the U19 World Cup four times previously, in 2000, 2008, 2012, and 2018.

England was bowled out for 189 runs, with Raj Bawa taking five wickets and Ravi Kumar four. India won the final by four wickets thanks to 50s from Nishant Sindhu and Shaik Rasheed.
