SA vs IND: Virat Kohli blames batsmen for series loss against South Africa;
SA vs IND: Virat Kohli, India’s captain, says the team’s batting line-up “must be looked into” for away tests. Blaming the team’s failure to deal in foreign conditions for the team’s 2-1 series setback in South Africa.
South Africa won the series with a seven-wicket victory in the third and final test at Newlands on Friday. Despite being underdogs against No. 1 ranked India due to their relative lack of experience.
Only Kohli averaged more than 40 with the bat among India’s batsmen who appeared in multiple tests, and while the seaming, bouncy wickets presented a challenge, the captain felt his side might have shown more application.

“One of the issues we’ve had while touring abroad is making sure we take advantage of momentum when it’s on our side.” When we do it, we win tests; when we don’t, we lose matches,” Kohli explained.
“It (the series loss) is batting; we can’t point to any other facet of our game as a team.” There is no getting around the fact that the batting needs to be looked into.
“I’m not going to stand here and say, ‘oh, but we won in Australia and England,’ because we have to show up to every series and attempt to win it, which we haven’t done in South Africa,” Kohli added.
“Having periodic collapses is not a healthy thing, and we must analyse and address this going forward.”
