SA vs IND: Irfan Pathan gives advice to Indian Team for Overseas Tests;

SA vs IND: Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathangives advice to Virat Kohli-led Test team. He said they should try to include a wrist-spinner in the playing XI when playing Tests overseas.

Pathan’s remark came a day after India was defeated by South Africa in a three-match Test series. The Kohli-led team lost the third and final Test by seven wickets, resulting in a 1-2 series.

“Indian middle-order looks like it will change, Should too. But I strongly believe in having a wrist spinner in overseas conditions. Which will have a solid wicket-taking option in any condition,” tweeted Pathan.

Virat Kohli, India’s Test captain, said that the visitors’ batting let them down in the Test series against South Africa, but he avoided openly commenting on Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane’s places in the side.

“Batting has let us down in the last two games I would say and there is no running away. I can’t sit here and talk about what could happen in the future (about Pujara and Rahane),” said Kohli in the press conference.

In the last Test, Pujara scored 43 in the first innings and nine in the second, but Rahane failed to score in both innings, scoring nine and one in the third.

Kohli said that it is the responsibility of selectors, not the captain, to make decisions about both hitters’ futures.

“You probably have to speak to the selectors about what they have in mind because this is not my job. As I have said before, I would say again, we have continued to back Cheteshwar and Ajinkya because of the kind of players they are and what they have done in past in Test cricket,” said Kohli.

The first Test was won by India by 113 runs, while South Africa won the second and third Tests to win the series.
