SA vs IND: Big Setback for India, Mohammed Siraj dodders out of field; WATCH VIDEO – lIn the second final over of the first day’s play between India and South Africa at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, India seamer Mohammed Siraj may have strained his hamstring.

Siraj was challenging South African captain Dean Elgar in the closing quarter of the day’s play when he had to walk off the field with the physio for what appears to be a hamstring issue. Although there has been no official ruling on his injury, the Indian side is hoping it is not too serious because India doesn’t have much to defend in the first innings after being bowled out for 202 in the penultimate session of play.

The pitch appears to be helping the seamers, and this wicket, in particular, will suit Siraj better, who was just getting into his stride before the injury. Earlier, India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was hit in the gloves, prompting the physio to rush in with the magic spray. We’ll have to wait and see if it has any effect on Ashwin’s bowling.|

Mohammad Shami took the lone wicket for India, Aiden Makram, who was trapped straight in front, and the umpire had no difficulty in raising his finger. Had Rishabh Pant not dropped Keegen Petersen off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling, India would have made their second breakthrough of the day.

Before leaving, I asked if I could talk about it. Overnight, medical personnel are evaluating him (Siraj). With Siraj’s history, I’m hopeful he can come out and give it his all “After the day’s play in Johannesburg, R Ashwin spoke to reporters.

India will be looking to reach all fuel tanks during first session of the second day’s play, failing which South Africa will have every shot at taking a great first-innings lead, putting the tourists under a great deal of pressure, especially since regular captain Virat Kohli was ruled out earlier in the day with an upper-back spasm. Kohli is likely to be healthy for the third and final Test, which will take place on January 11, 2022.
