Ranji Trophy is our backbone, ignoring it will make Indian cricket ‘spineless’ says Ravi Shastri;

Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri on Friday said that the Ranji trophy is the backbone of Indian cricket and that the country’s top domestic red-ball tournament should not be overlooked.

“The Ranji tournament is the backbone of Indian cricket. The moment you start ignoring it, our cricket will be SPINELESS,” tweeted Shastri. On January 4, the BCCI had postponed the Ranji tournament due to rising COVID-19 cases in the country.

The tournament and Col CK Nayudu Trophy scheduled to begin in January this year.

Last season as well, tournament not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 would begin in late March and end in May, according to BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

So it would be interesting to watch how the board plans. To stage the tournament this season, or if it will postponed once more.
