PSL 2022: Islamabad United name Waqas Maqsood as temporary replacement for Reece Topley;
Maqsood only appeared in one T20I match for Pakistan in 2018, against New Zealand in Dubai. Previously, the 34-year-old played for the Karachi Kings.
According to the PSL replacement protocols, a foreign player can replaced with another overseas player. As such, Islamabad United replaced Topley with a foreign player.
The temporary replacement has approved by Event Technical Committee, which is headed by Zakir Khan (Director – International Cricket Operations), and includes Nadeem Khan (Director – High Performance) and Sameer Khosa.
On Sunday, Islamabad United will face Peshawar Zalmi at the National Stadium in Karachi to begin their PSL 7 campaign. Zalmi defeated Quetta Gladiators by five wickets in their debut encounter, with stand-in captain Shoaib Malik (48*) and Hussain Talat (52) bowling with a heavyweight to aid the side chase the large total of 192.
Shadab Khan, a Pakistan all-rounder, will captain the Islamabad United. Moerover, it boasts Alex Hales, Paul Stirling, Marchant de Lange, and Zahir Khan among its overseas players.
However, With 16 points, Islamabad United won the PSL 2021 points table. But lost in the playoffs to eventual champions Multan Sultans and Peshwar Zalmi. As a result, they were the 2016 and 2018 champions.
