NZ vs IND: Amelia Kerr, Maddy Green star as hosts take 2-0 lead in ODI series
NZ vs IND: Amelia Kerr (119*) and Maddy Green (52) starred with the bat as New Zealand defeated India by three wickets in the second ODI of the five-match series at the John Davies Oval in Queenstown on Tuesday.
New Zealand now has a 2-0 lead in the five-match series, with the third ODI set to take place on Friday.
With New Zealand needing 271 runs, opening batsmen Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates put on 35 runs in the first five overs. However, Deepti Sharma finally broke the stand when she sent Bates (16) back to the pavilion. Soon after, Rajeshwari Gayakwad dismissed Devine (33) and the hosts were reduced to 52/2 in the eighth over.
The White Ferns were in trouble at 55/3, needing 216 runs to win, when Deepti Sharma removed Amy Satterthwaite (0) on the batter’s first ball. The innings was then revived by Amelia Kerr and Maddy Green, who joined together at the crease. New Zealand’s score at the midway point was 135/3, with the hosts needing 136 more runs to win.
Both batsmen put up 128 runs for the fourth wicket. And India finally broke through in the 34th over when Poonam Yadav dismissed Green (52) for a duck. In the end, Kerr was able to take complete control. And New Zealand won by three wickets to take a 2-0 series lead.
