IPL 2023: Trevor Bayliss appointed Head Coach of Punjab Kings

IPL 2023: Punjab Kings today announced the appointment of Trevor Bayliss as the new head coach of Punjab Kings for the next season of the IPL.

Bayliss brings his experience of winning the 2019 World Cup with England, 2 IPL titles and a BBL title with the Sydney Sixers.

The 59-year-old from New South Wales has coached the Sunrisers Hyderabad most recently and is a frequent participant in the IPL.

Bayliss led the support staff of the Kolkata Knight Riders when they won the IPL in 2012 and 2014 in addition to leading England to their first ODI World Cup victory in 2019.

Commenting on his new role, Trevor Bayliss, Head Coach Punjab Kings said:

β€œ I’m honoured to be given the Head Coach’s role with the Punjab Kings. A foundation franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with a talented squad of players determined to compete for silverware.”

Punjab, a team that has struggled to consistently perform at its best since the IPL’s start in 2008. And has finished sixth each of the previous four seasons.

They frequently blow hot and cold, which contributes to their demise. Bayliss will undoubtedly want to improve on that one area.

They eliminated early from the most recent IPL. Because they couldn’t pull together two victories in a row during the league stage.

The management must also make a crucial decision on captaincy. Last year, Mayank Agarwal replaced KL Rahul as captain, but his batting performance fell short of expectations.

As a result of the owners’ and management’s confidence in Agarwal. He may given one additional year to lead the side.

He and Arshdeep Singh, the only two players Punjab had retained ahead of the 2022 IPL.
