IPL 2022: Two new franchise receives formal clearance ahead of mega auction in Bengaluru
IPL 2022: The Board of Control for Cricket in India gave formal approval to the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) two new clubs. Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group for the Lucknow franchise and CVC Capital’s Ahmedabad team, on Tuesday (BCCI).
After a meeting of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council on Tuesday, the formal approval was issued. And both Ahmedabad and Lucknow were given a deadline for player signings before the big auction.
“Both the Lucknow and Ahmedabad franchises have received formal approval. Both have been given two weeks to make their draught selections” Brijesh Patel, the chairman of the IPL, told ANI.
Patel also stated that the IPL auction will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.
“Yes, the auction will take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru,” Patel confirmed to ANI.
TATA will replace VIVO as the tournament’s principal sponsor for the upcoming edition, IPL chairman Brijesh Patel said earlier on Tuesday.
“Yes, TATA will take over as headline sponsor from Vivo,” Patel told ANI.
Vivo’s sponsorship arrangement with the league has two years left on it. Therefore Tata will continue to be the primary sponsor during that time.
Some of the big names that the existing franchises have agreed to keep for IPL 2022. It includes MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, and Glenn Maxwell.
The two new IPL franchises, Lucknow and Ahmedabad, each have a budget of Rs 33 crore. They can choose three players who will be re-added to the pool before the major auction.
