IPL 2022: 5 players for whom Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) can bid in Mega Auction

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a tragic IPL 2021 season. SRH arose in last place, with only 3 victories and 11 losses in 14 matches. In the SRH camp, there was a lot of redundant play as well. Kane Williamson took over as captain midway through the IPL 2021 season, switching David Warner. SRH fired Warner as a lead, and he wasn’t even selected as a player for the franchise’s final few matches.

Warner was, probably, released by the franchise prior to the IPL 2022 auction. Only 3 players were retained by SRH: Kane Williamson (Rs 14 crore), Abdul Samad (Rs 4 crore), and Umran Malik (Rs 4 crore) (Rs 4 crore). As a result, they still have Rs 68 crore in their purse. Keeping this in mind, here are 5 players SRH might hunt at the January auction.

Pat Cummins

At the IPL 2020 auction, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) paid Rs 15.5 crore for new Australian Test skipper Pat Cummins. While Cummins is an excellent fast bowler in all forms, many experts thought the price was too high. The bowler had a disappointing IPL 2020 season, taking only 12 wickets in 14 games. He took nine wickets in seven games in 2021, and he also hit an amazing 66 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

IPL 2022 Cummins can be an excellent bowler if he is properly utilised. He bowls at a fast pace and with pinpoint accuracy. Because they lacked a talented fast bowler in IPL 2021, SRH struggled. Bringing in Cummins can help them improve this area. He can also help Umran Malik, who has bowled with a lot of pace in his last few games. Cummins isn’t just a good fast bowler; he’s also a capable batsman.

T Natarajan

T Natarajan, a left-arm pacer, was not retained by SRH before the auction, which was a surprise. He was out for the majority of the IPL 2021 season due to injuries, although he was a significant component of their great run in the IPL 2020 season. He played only two matches for SRH in the recently finished season but bagged 16 in as many outings as the year before. Natarajan has a superb yorker, which memorably undid AB de Villiers in an IPL 2020 knockout match. He varies his deliveries efficiently and is a match-winner with the ball in the true sense. If Natarajan is available, there is no reason why SRH should not purchase him again.

KS Bharat

In the IPL 2022, wicketkeeper-batters are in high demand. SRH will be looking for a suitable replacement now that Jonny Bairstow has been released. KS Bharat is a viable choice. He played for RCB in the IPL 2021 and had a strong season, hitting 191 runs in eight games. This includes a career-best 78 not out against the Delhi Capitals (DC), during which Bharat hit the iconic last-ball six off Avesh Khan. He’s also a quick goalkeeper.

Jayant Yadav

While joining the Mumbai Indians (MI) in recent years, off-spinner Jayant Yadav has not had many opportunities to play in the IPL. He has only played 19 matches in the IPL and has taken eight wickets in that time. Yadav, on the other hand, has a superb economic rate of 6.86 and is a deft operator. In two IPL 2020 games, he only had one wicket, but it was the crucial one of Shikhar Dhawan in the final. Yadav is also a capable hitter.

Saurabh Tiwary

With Hardik Pandya out due to injury, Saurabh Tiwary was handed a couple of chances for MI in the IPL 2021. To his credit, he capitalised on his opportunity, scoring 115 runs in five games, including a half-century. Tiwary batted with maturity and silenced those who questioned his fitness. He was also in good form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It could be a good middle-order pick.
